Firefighters from mid and north Powys spent almost four hours dealing with a tractor fire which had spread within a large farm shed near Bettws Cedewain.

Fire engines from Newtown, Llanfair Caereinion, Montgomery and Llandrindod Wells rushed to the fire after receiving a 999 call shortly after 2.30pm on Wednesday (June 14).

No people or animals were involved in the fire which the fire service said was "accidental".

It is understood that the fire had spread from the tractor to straw bedding and the timber cladding of the farm shed.

A picture shared on social media showed a burnt-out tractor inside a large agricultural building with charred remains on the floor.

A Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "On arrival, one 40m x 15m agricultural building was alight.

"Crews extinguished the fire using two hose reel jets, four breathing apparatus sets, thermal imaging camera and small gear. Crews proceeded to dampen down and turned over appliances to shuttle water from a nearby hydrant.

"The cause of the fire was accidental and originated from a tractor on fire inside the building."

Firefighters left the scene shortly before 6.30pm.
