RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of six stirks to £640; 42 calves to £305; 317 store lambs to £88; 10 pet lambs to £23 and 189 ewe & lamb couples to £335.

Calves (auctioneer-Dafydd Parry):

There was plenty of demand!

Calves up to £50 on the week. More calves are required now on a weekly basis to meet the current demand.

Top price went to Edmunds, Pool Park, who sold a BB bull calf to £305 with another from Jones, The Gables, selling to £300.

Others:

BB heifer £275; Lim heifer £265; Lim bull £250.

Weanlings (auctioneer-Dafydd Parry):

Hereford 8 month old bulls to £640; Lim 8 month old bulls to £600; Simmental 7 month old bull to £550; Belted Galloway 7 month old bull to £550.

The next dairy sale will be on Thursday, January 26.

Store lambs (auctioneer-Elfor Morris):

A smaller entry of 317 store lambs on the day.

There were buyers for all sorts with the top price of £88 for Suffolk x clean lambs from E W Williams a’i gwmni, Troed yr Allt.

Best of the ewe lambs to £86 and crossbred ram lambs hitting the £79-80 mark.

Texel ram lambs to £77; Welsh ram lambs to £64; Charollais ram lambs to £76; Beltex ewe lambs to £86; Suffolk ram lambs to £88; Crossbred ram lambs to £79; Mule ram lambs to £72; Easycare ram lambs to £70.

Overall average £53.87.

Ewe & lamb couples (auctioneer-Paul Roberts):

Opening prize sale of ewes & lambs with 189 forward.

A buoyant trade throughout considering the weather the previous night with many buyers going home with empty trailers.

Twins (117): Overall average £250.64, £83.55 a life.

Singles (72): Overall average £196.94, £98.47 a life.

RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of 860 prime lambs to £131 / 284.7ppk and 24 ewes to £96.

Prime lambs (auctioneer-Rich Lloyd):

As expected on the day, there were fewer numbers with 860 forward.
Even so, there was plenty of demand for the lambs on offer and a cracking Friday SQQ of 254.8ppk.

Top priced:

52kg at £131 by EW & SE Williams, Hendre Fawr.

54kg at £130 by Sion Jones, Cefn Eithin.

49kg at £127 by JW Jones & Co, Crafnant.

Top priced per kilo:

42.5kg at 284.7ppk by EW & SE Williams, Hendre Fawr.

43.5kg at 282.8ppk by Harri Whittingham, Bron y Felin.

40kg at 282.5kg by R A Davies, Roe Park.

Light to 220.7ppk, av 216.3ppk; Standards to 282.1ppk, av 247.1ppk; Mediums to 284.7ppk, av 261ppk; Heavies to 265.2ppk, av 241.7ppk; Overs to 240.7ppk, av 218ppk.

RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of two heifers to £1095; 16 steers to £1295; nine dairy cattle to £2,300; three OTMs to £873.30 / 142ppk; 80 calves to £325; 726 store lambs to £99 and 12 in-lamb ewes to £168.

Store cattle (auctioneer-Rich Lloyd):

Heifers topped at £1095 for a 18 month Charolais from J A Wildbore, Carreghofa Farm.

13 month Char £890; Overall average £992.50.

Steers topped at £1295 for a 18 month Charolais from J A Wildbore, Carreghofa Farm.

Some other prices:

18 month Lim £1270; 13 month Char £1005; 15 month BB £720.

Overall average £935.

114 month Lim cow weighing 615kg from R J Breeze, Gogarth sold to 142ppk.

66 month Lim bull weighing 655kg from R G Williams, Bush Farm sold to 118ppk.

Dairy cattle (auctioneer-Dafydd Parry):

Dairies a firm trade with quality heifers in demand.

Top price went to Roberts, Ty’n Celyn selling a Holstein Friesian freshly calved heifer to £2,300 with another to £2120.

Crossbred in calvers met a blistering trade, due March onwards to crossbred bulls sold to £780 with others to £750.

A real lift in trade with plenty of buzz around the ring.
