AN elected representative is getting to the meat of the matter with his backing for a major award nominee.

Daniel Morris Family Butcher, in Denbigh, is in contention for a Welsh title in the butcher category of the Countryside Alliance Awards.

Now, Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies is encouraging people to vote for the business.

Voting is now open and the winners will be announced in Cardiff later this month.

They will then go forward to compete against winners from across the country in the grand final.

Dr Davies said: “The Rural Oscars are now in their 16th year and have become the definitive rural business award to win, celebrating those businesses that go the extra mile and are the cornerstone of our rural communities.

“They are set apart from other award schemes because they are driven by public nomination, offering customers the chance to tell us why their favourite businesses are worthy of national acclaim.

“The awards received thousands of nominations this year, so Daniel Morris Butchers has done extremely well to reach the regional final.

"To get to this stage is testament to the hard work and service they provide to their community."

Daniel Morris said: “We are absolutely over the moon to be a finalist in these prestigious awards.

"We got to this stage in 2020, but, unfortunately we didn’t win then, so we are hoping for better luck this time.

"I would like to thank everyone who nominated us and encourage people to support us when voting opens in January.”

Countryside Alliance Awards director Sarah Lee said: “We have been overwhelmed by nominations this year.

"The secret to the Rural Oscars’ popularity is that they honour the people involved in these businesses and not just their produce or services.

"They exist to sing the praises of those who work hard to keep our communities and rural economy ticking, but don’t seek the spotlight.

"Our local produce is second-to-none and there are many community heroes and businesses worthy of national recognition.”
