More than 3,000 people are expected to descend on a village near Newtown as a major event returns after a four-year break.

The National Sheep Association Welsh Sheep will see 200 trade stands gather at Red House in Aberhafesp on Tuesday, May 16.

Organisers said the event is a “must see and do” for anyone connected with the sheep industry for 2023. Non-farming locals are welcome to attend on the day.

People have been warned that the roads near Red House including the B4568 will be busy with thousands of people expected through the gates.

​Local farmers Huw and Sioned Owen, with their son Dafydd, are hosting the event at their 550 acre farm which has sweeping views of the Severn Valley.

The Owen family run 1,000 Texel cross ewes together with Dafydd's flock of 55 pedigree Beltex sheep.

Organisers say there will be a wide variety of events continuing throughout the day ranging from sheepdog trials, through various competitions, to demonstrations including the PGI Welsh Lamb butchery and cooking seminars, health updates and a whole lot more.
