A well-known farming couple from the Welshpool and Berriew area celebrated their 65th anniversary with a surprise party with their family.
Tony and Frances Hughes were married on May 31 in 1958 after meeting on a farm in Shrawardine, Shropshire. The couple would eventually have two children Allan and Angela, five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
"They are very much the core of the family, said granddaughter Lynsey. "We adore them.
"They’re very much in love from back in the day and it’s lasted and that's lovely. They stick together like glue."
Tony and Frances celebrated their happy milestone with their family at a surprise party at the Lakeside restaurant, Garthmyl, near Little Brynllewyn, the small holding which was their first home as married couple before moving to Plasdwpa Farm in Berriew and then Leighton.
Lynsey said: "They were really shocked, they loved it. The simple things like cutting of the cake, it meant so lot to them. They were very happy.
"They were also very pleased to have received a card from King Charles and the Queen congratulating them on their 65 years of marriage.
"He loves the King and loved the Queen, so they were very, very happy to receive the card.”
