Black Welsh Mountain Sheep sold to a top of 2,600gns at the society’s Annual Show and Sale at Monmouthshire Livestock Centre in August.

Sale leader was a shearling ram from B Davies and S Harries, Llanfynydd, Carmarthen, selling to Messrs Codd and Lewis, Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire. Bryn Yr Eglwys Elgan is by Bryn Yr Eglwys Cola and was named ram of the year this year having had a successful summer show season.

Next best call at 1,100gns was the second prize aged ram, a two-year-old from Chris Garn, Monmouth. Garnview Dafydd is by Upper House Spritz and was originally bred by D and S Hayward. Having stood third at the Royal Welsh Show this year, he was knocked down to Gwawr Williams, Bryncroes, Pwhelli.

Gwawr’s own three-year old ram, Mendip Carpe Diem, originally bred by Harriet Brown, sold at 750gns to Chris Garn, Monmouth.

Meanwhile second highest price in the shearling ram offering at 900gns was G Morgan, Swffryd, selling Tyr Pentre Eryi, a Ganol Chump son bred by Mr and Mrs H Williams, to Llanover Farm Partnership, Abergavenny.

E O Williams, Talybont On Usk sold his best shearling ram to 800gns with this third place ram finding a new home with K Bowman, Abercrave.

Ram lambs sold to 750gns for an entry from Llanover Farm Partnership in the form of Llanover Black Prince Fagus, a Fedw Dewi son. This one was knocked down to Matthew Evans, Corwen. Meanwhile, Will Workman, Brecon, Powys, sold Fedw Foxy Fella, a Llanover Black Prince Elm son at 650gns to M A Gwillim, Clytha, Abergavenny.

Females

Female trade saw a top price of 720gns for the female champion and winner of the single ewe lamb class from E O Williams, Talybont On Usk. By Garnview Dragons Den, this one took the eye of R Wilson, Miskin.

Meanwhile, shearling ewes sold to a top of 540gns for the reserve female champion and winner of the pair of shearling ewes class from Chris Garn, Monmouth, selling to S M Forsyth, Brecon, who judged the pre-sale show of females.

Next up at 480gns was the winner of the single shearling ewe class from M D and D L Evans, Abergavenny. This one was knocked down to L W and A R Rowlands, Bala.
