A society sale of Badger Face Welsh Mountains at Brecon saw a top call of 2,200gns for a Torddu ram lamb from Aron Hemmings, Llanfynydd, Carmarthenshire.
The male, which set a new ram lamb record for a society sale, was first in his class at this year’s Royal Welsh Show and is by the highest priced ram lamb from last year and out of a homebred dam which was champion at the Royal Welsh in 2018. After spirited bidding he sold to Gareth Vince Jones, Felingwm, Carmarthenshire.
Next best in the Torddu males was an 1,150gns sale for the very next lot from the same home. Taking this one home were M and R Bevan, Raglan.
Following that at 1,060gns was a yearling ram from Ollie Davies, Clifford, Herefordshire. He was taken by Don Green, Ely, Cambridgeshire.
Then making 1,000gns was the day’s male and overall champion from Lucy Levinge, Vowchurch, Herefordshire. This yearling ram is the same way bred as the 2022 sale topper at 1700gns and sold to H E Roberts, Dolgellau, Meirionnydd.
Next in line at 700gns was a ram lamb from Liz Davies, Llangadog, Carmarthenshire, with this one selling to S Gospel, Helmsley, North Yorkshire. Torddu females
Leading the Torddu female offering at 800gns was a ewe lamb from previous buyer Gareth Jones. Second in the pre-sale show, her grandsire was Royal Welsh champion in 2018, with this one setting a Torddu ewe lamb record when bought by the Tamplin family, Caerphilly.
A 700gns sale followed that for a yearling from Messrs King and Jeffreys, Llanelli, Carmarthenshire. This one is a daughter of the Royal Welsh Show male champion in both 2022 and 2023 and was knocked down to the Richarardson family, Chepstow.
Close behind at 680gns was the reserve female champion from G W and M M Jones, Llanllwni, Pencader, with this one finding a new home with B Walker, Cumbria.

A pair then followed that at 500gns, with the first being another from Messrs King and Jeffreys. This yearling ewe headed to Kent with John and Sarah Shrubshall.
The other at the same money was the female champion and reserve overall champion from the pre-sale show, a yearling ewe from Gareth Jones. She sold to Aron Hemmings, for his AJH flock.
Torwen males

A pair of yearling rams then traded at 520gns, both of which were yearlings from E and J Jones, Llandeilo. The first of these was taken by A Harries, Llanwrda, Carms, while the second found a new home with W M Brown.
