A ram sale at Penderyn, near Merthyr, set a new record as the top yearling South Wales Mountain ram sold for £14,500gns.
A fantastic sunny day met with a cracking trade throughout and 91% clearance. as the sale welcomed buyers from as far as Devon and Cornwall with a total of 178 registered buyers on the day.
This year HRT of Cowbridge conducted their first show at the sale, sponsored by Crynant Plant, HLF Haulage and Four Falls Glamping with judges Elin Meredith and Craig Davies. It is hoped to continue this as an annual tradition to showcase the quality of rams sold at this sale.

South Wales Mountain
In the South Wales Mountain ring, yearlings were in demand once again with 42 yearlings achieving 1,000gns or more. A total of 185 yearling rams were sold on the day with an overall average of 924.27gns (+231.65gns on 2022). Top price was achieved by K Stephens, Ffynon Rhyngyllt Farm, who topped at 14,500gns selling to JE John & Sons, Blaen-Crymlyn.
A total of 26 aged rams were sold on the day averaging 434.80gns. A 3-year-old ram topped at 1300gns from W Groucott, 5 Herbert Terrace. Other top prices included a 3-year-old ram selling to 1120gns from M/s RL & HL Morgan, Hendrefawr Farm followed by 1050gns from DMG Millichap & Partner, Hendre Owen Farm for a 4-year-old ram.

White-faced rams included 106 rams sold on the day with an overall average of 277.64gns (-24.02gns on 2022). The trade topped on the day with a yearling ram at 1,050gns from E Williams, Pengelli Fawr Farm followed by a yearling from Ms LM Howells, Gelli Farm achieving 1,000gns. A good commercial trade was achieved with a large proportion of rams trading in the region of 250gns-360gns.

Lowland
Lowland rams included 76 rams sold on the day with an overall average of 278.81gns (+54.75gns on 2022). The trade topped on the day with a Suffolk yearling ram at 540gns from GG Lewis, Wigfa Farm followed by a Texel yearling ram at 500gns from TJ Edmunds, Pantraethlon Farm.
