Police deployed a stinger to take down a vehicle towing a trailer that had been stolen from a Powys farm.

A joint operation between West Mercia Police and North Wales Police saw a stinger used to puncture the tyres of a getaway vehicle which was towing the trailer stolen from a farm in Meifod.

The trailer was reported stolen on Friday (April 5), and was spotted on the A483 by police being towed by a 4x4.

Police vehicles from Oswestry then pursued the vehicle at a distance while North Wales Police set up an ambush to take down the car.

After this the vehicle’s tyres burst and the driver attempted to escape on foot, but was unsuccessful and was arrested by police at the scene and charged with theft.   

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: “On the evening of the April 5 an Ifor Williams livestock trailer was stolen from a farm in Meifod, Powys. 

“The trailer was spotted traveling north on the A483 being towed by a Nissan X trail. West Mercia Police followed the vehicle at distance until North Wales Police were able to get into position with a stinger.

“The stinger was deployed bursting a number of tyres.

"The vehicle came to a safe stop and after a short foot chase one male was arrested for the theft.

"The trailer was recovered and will find its way back to the rightful owner.”
