A popular Powys village show that was celebrating its 75th year anniversary this year welcomed thousands of people for a record-breaking event.

The 2024 Berriew Show, held on Saturday, August 24, attracted a huge crowd to the showground as the agricultural show celebrated three quarters of a century since it was founded.

Organisers estimated that as many as 6,000 people were out in force to mark the occasion, seeing attractions like live music, fancy dress competitions, more than 80 classic vehicles, hundreds of trade stands and much more.

Phil Bettley, Berriew Show committee vice-chair, said: “Thank you to all those who came to The Berriew Show.

“Crowds flocked to the show field, leading to a record attendance which is provisionally put at over 6,000. ‘The best Berriew Show ever’ was the general opinion and up there with the most renowned shows in the area.

“The variety of entertainment and activities made it so special including over 80 vintage vehicles, huge horse and dog shows and an exhibition pavilion with 1,264 entries.

“Our strongman, the Mighty Smith, once again captivated children and adults alike and with so many trade stands and craft stalls there was something for everyone.

The Halcyon Band rounded off the 75th birthday celebrations with a headlining set of popular covers.

Mr Bettley added: “It was a day of family fun, friendship and community spirit and a fitting way to celebrate 75 years of The Berriew Show.”
